Choosing a Stain
When choosing a concrete stain, there are a few factors to consider:
The type of concrete
The type of concrete will affect the color of the stain. For example, light-colored concrete will show off the color of the stain more than dark-colored concrete.
The desired color
There are a wide variety of colors available for concrete stains. Choose a color that will complement the surrounding area.
The desired finish
Concrete stains can be matte, satin, or glossy. Choose a finish that will match the style of your home or business.
Preparing the Surface
The surface of the concrete must be clean and free of debris before staining. In most cases if the concrete is heavily soiled with oil, the use of a grinder will be needed to properly prepare the surface. If the concrete is old or has been damaged, you may need to repair it before staining.
Applying the Stain
Apply the stain according to the manufacturer's instructions. Be sure to wear gloves and a respirator when applying the stain.
Sealing the Stain
Once the stain has dried, you should seal it to protect it from fading and damage. There are a variety of sealants available for concrete. Choose a sealant that is compatible with the type of stain you used.
